Raiders Battle Hard on the Road in Tough Loss to Alexander
The East Paulding Raiders softball squad faced their first true road test in region play on Thursday, August 13, matching up against a tough Alexander Cougars team in Douglasville. Despite some strong individual efforts and a resilient dugout, the Raiders were unable to hold off the Cougars’ potent offense, ultimately dropping an 11-3 decision. The loss moves East Paulding’s season record to an even 2-2 as they continue to navigate the early portion of their 6A Region 5 schedule.
From the first pitch, the Cougars put pressure on the Raiders’ defense. East Paulding showed great heart, continuing to fight at the plate and making crucial adjustments as the game progressed. There were moments of brilliant defensive plays and sharp contact that showed the grit this team possesses, but Alexander was able to capitalize on key scoring opportunities to pull away. While the final score didn’t go their way, the coaching staff saw plenty of teachable moments and a solid foundation of effort that the squad can build on as the season deepens.
Regrouping and Refining
In high school softball, a setback on the road is simply an opportunity to learn, adjust, and come back stronger. The Raiders have shown they have the offense and the defensive communication to compete at a high level, and a tough contest like this only highlights the specific areas of focus for the next practice. With the core of the region schedule still ahead, the team is already focused on putting this game in the rearview mirror and returning to their winning ways.

The Raiders won’t have to wait long to get back on the field and show what they’re made of. Next up is a highly anticipated conference tournament: GADC Classic at Twin Creeks Park on Friday, August 14, for a challenging non-league matchup against the South Effingham Mustangs. East Paulding will face a squad coming off a strong performance of their own, making it a perfect opportunity for the Girls in Red and Black to test themselves, build momentum, and get back in the win column!
